TAO CALLIGRAPHY
CH'I
Ch'i, the universal
energy (lit. breath, energy), permeates and organizes all existence, and is
responsible for the cyclical renewability of nature.
It is everywhere, and in
everything, is physical, unforced, can be felt and measured, is the tao's
manifest power.
An early translation was "ridgepole", the supporter
of yin and yang - the mutually
arising interdependent "opposites" of all existence.
It is the principle
upon which chinese medicine is founded, and makes taoism a physical (as well as
spiritual) pursuit : witness kung fu, acupuncture, herbs,
chi kung,
massage, tai chi chuan, feng shui, etc..
